Partners Come Together to Support First Nation Evacuation

In early May, 78 community members – including medically vulnerable individuals, children and elderly residents – from Kashechewan First Nation were evacuated to Barrie, due to local flooding in their community.

Local health partners quickly mobilized to provide essential care and support. Services included dialysis support, prescription refills, emergency medical care, wound care and dental screening.

Repatriation took place on May 17, as evacuees safely returned to their home community. The response from partners reflected the incredible compassion, coordination and commitment of our community in a time of need.

Equity, Inclusion, Diversity & Anti-Racism (EIDA-R) Working Group Spotlight

Each month, we spotlight a specific equity-deserving group and share educational resources to help providers offer more informed, inclusive and supportive care.

On May 17, we recognized the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia – a time to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQIA2S+ community. And as we also look ahead to Pride Month in June, we’re sharing learning resources designed to help foster more inclusive environments, enhance communication and support equitable care for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals.
