Barrie and Area OHT partners come together to support evacuated residents from Kashechewan

To prepare for the arrival of evacuated residents from the First Nation community of Kashechewan, BAOHT partners came together under the leadership of Ontario Health to support the health care needs of incoming community members. The collaboration, dedication, expertise, and resources contributed by all has been instrumental in ensuring appropriate care was provided during this critical time.

Thank you to all partners involved, including: Barrie and Community Family Health Team’s Prenatal Well-Baby Clinic; Barrie Community Health Centre; Barrie Family Medicine Teaching Unit; Barrie Native Friendship Centre; Canadian Mental Health Association – Simcoe County Branch; County of Simcoe; Home and Community Care Support Services; Huronia Urgent Care Clinic; Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin; Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre; and the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit

Ontario Health shares new Social Determinants of Health Framework

Earlier this month Ontario Health (OH) released a new tool to help health care and community leaders improve health outcomes by dealing with non-medical, health-related social issues that affect people’s health. The Social Determinants of Health Framework was developed through extensive research and consultations (including 21 OHTs) and includes eight key evidence-based principles. It is intended to be a practical tool to guide our collective efforts in shifting the population health curve, improving overall health by addressing underlying health inequities and root causes of illness.
